The Burleson Preservation Committee and the Hartselle Historical Society have joined together once again to help raise funds for the restoration of the historic F.E. Burleson School building.
The fourth annual silent auction and dinner will be held Saturday, April 17, at the school building. All proceeds will benefit the formation of a performing arts center for Hartselle and surrounding communities at the historic F.E. Burleson School building.
The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m. followed by a rib eye dinner, catered by Ann Cagle, and entertainment by soloist Charlsa Taul Perdew, piano accompanist Martha Bowling, and aspiring ballerina Brantley Wilson.
Perdew, currently a music specialist for Morgan County schools and a voice teacher, served as a music educator in metro Atlanta for more than 13 years. She was a member of the Atlanta Opera Chorus for 13 seasons and served as a mezzo soprano soloist with the Atlanta Opera Studio Program for two seasons, among numerous other musical accomplishments.
Perdew will be accompanied by pianist Martha Bowling, a former elementary school music teacher and Hartselle First Baptist Church pianist who teaches private piano lessons.
Perdew and Bowling will perform a variety of musical favorites, including "Deep River," "Ride On, King Jesus," "Hello Young Lovers," "How Could I Ever Know," and "Love is Here to Stay."
Hartselle Junior High School student Brantley Wilson, 14, will perform ballet. Beginning her dance career at age two, Wilson has been under scholarship for two years at the Alabama Ballet in Birmingham. She has been chosen to attend the American Ballet Theater in New York this summer and will be trained by and perform with some of the top ballet performers in America while there.
Tickets are $50 per person and tax-deductible. For tickets or information, call 773-0708 or 773-9390.
The fundraisers' silent auction includes a variety of unique and valuable items donated by local businesses. Items are still being accepted and added to the list. At press time, the list of donated items was as follows:
