Funeral for Marie Hughes, 81, of Falkville was Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Floyd L. Bradford and James Hopkins officiating.
Burial was in Herring Cemetery.
Mrs. Hughes died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at her residence. She was born Dec. 18, 1922, in Blount County to Egbert Stancil and Leona Sims Stancil. She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. She had worked as a clerk at Summerford Grocery Store in Falkville and on the Dietary Staff at Summerford Nursing Home. She was an avid gardener and homemaker. She was the mother to the late James H. "Chip" Hughes, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Henry Hughes of Falkville; one daughter Jacquelyn Hughes Gandy of Guntersville; one brother, Ervil Stancil; one sister, Floris McClendon of Cold Springs; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers were Butch Bradford, David Bradford, Jordan Gandy, Mitchell Hughes, Mal Patterson and Galin McClendon.
