City workers will get 3 percent COLA, benefits

Hartselle city employees will receive a 3 percent cost of living raise and have to pay less for health care for their dependents under the budget passed Tuesday night.
The budget shows expected revenues of $7.5 million, with expenses of $7.4 million. In addition to the 3 percent raise, it also increases in the amount the city will pay for dependent health insurance. The city currently pays 25 percent of the cost of dependent health insurance. That will increase to 50 percent under the new budget.
The rest of the budget is virtually the same as last year, with all city department heads being asked to hold off on most major expenditures.
