MCHS grad misses class reunion, but meets president

Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
Morgan County High School graduate Corky Sutterer may have missed his high school reunion, but it was for a good reason.
Sutterer, a 1968 graduate of MCHS, skipped the reunion in order to attend a special ceremony for his daughter, Dara Sutterer Manning. Manning was honored by President George W. Bush for her service in the Marine Corps HMX1, the President Helicopter Squadron. Manning also served President Bill Clinton.
She's traveled throughout the world with both presidents before the end of her tour in August. Manning's grandmother, Myrtle Sutterer, lives in Hartselle and said Corky visits home as often as possible.
Manning is a long-time Marine, who left home for boot camp just six days after graduating high school five years ago. She was in boot camp in Parrish Island, N.C. and attended various schools in Pensacola, Fla. and San Diego, Ca.
Her duty assignment was in Quantico, Va, where she was assigned to the Presidential Helicopter Squadron.
Finished with her service, Manning will attend Purdue University in the fall. Her husband, also a Marine, will be attending Purdue, too. The couple plans to study foreign business and investment studies and spend a semester in Russia. After graduation, the couple plans to spend three years in Japan in the foreign service office.
