Looney finishes basic training
Marine Pfc. Jeramey Looney graduated basic training at Parris Island, S.C.
He is a 2001 graduate of Hartselle High School.
He is the son of Tim and Subrena Looney of Hartselle. He is the grandson of Dot and Johnny Luker of Danville, Doris Frost of Eva and the late Mosie Looney.
Hartsfield among grads
Army National Guard Pfc. Jeffrey S. Hartsfield has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills.
Hartsfield is the son of Susan Burks of Decatur and Michael Hartsfield of Danville.
He is a 2000 graduate of Decatur High School.
Purple Heart memorial
The Finis J. Self Military Order of the Purple Heart of Cullman and Morgan County is in the process of raising money for a chapter memorial to honor all combat wounded veterans (men and women) who received the Purple Heart who are from or live in the Cullman or Morgan counties area. Any help to make this project a reality would be greatly appreciated. Tax deductible donations are being accepted at any Regions Bank in the name of Finis J. Self Chapter 2212 MOPH Memorial Fund. Please send a copy of your tax deductible donation to the following address and a receipt will be returned to the contributor: Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 2212 Service Officer, P.O. Box 106, Somerville, AL 35670. Any Purple Heart recipients from Cullman and Morgan counties are being sought. If you know a family member or friend who was awarded the Purple Heart in any war or conflict, please send their name, address and/or photo to the above address to be engraved on the memorial.
FRA seeking new members
The Fleet Reserve Association Branch 278 is looking for new members for the Northern Alabama Branch. The FRA is an organization of retired military from the sea services of the United States. Eligibility requirements are as follows: Any retired military or retired Nation Guard individual with a minimum of one day of sea service time in the United States Coast Guard, United States Marine Corps or United States Navy. Qualified individuals can signup for a two-year membership for $30. The branch has a regular monthly meeting on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is held at Greenbrier Barbecue in Madison on Highway 20, Greenbrier exit off I-565.
