A graveside service for Stella Sparkman Jones, 92, of Hartselle was held Saturday, July 26, at 3 p.m. at Moss Chapel Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Thompson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Jones died Friday, July 25, 2003, at Sunshine Haven in Hartselle. She was born Nov. 21, 1910, in Morgan County to William Lewis Sparkman and Mary Jane Roberts Sparkman.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hartselle and a charter member of the Hartselle Homemakers Club. One of her greatest joys in life was sharing her talent of music with others. She played the piano for many years for the Hartselle First United Methodist Church Nursing Home Ministry, Sparkman Civic Center Senior Group and for other churches and nursing homes. She, along with her siblings, made up the Sparkman String Band that performed at various places in the 1920s and 1930s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doc B. Jones; and a son, Lucian E. Jones.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Barnett of Hartselle; five grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hartselle First United Methodist Church Good Samaritan Fund or the ALACARE Hospice.
