1945-April 3, First Sgt. Charles C. Oden is with the U.S. Army Engineers in the Pacific theatre of war.
1918-April 4, Wiley S. Orr, 24, who grew up on a farm near Hartselle and is the son of Mrs. Ellen Hardwick Orr, is currently with the U.S. Army Expeditionary Force in France.
1944-April 4, R. Q. Rollins is now a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He formerly was a teacher and coach at Morgan County High School.
1944-April 5, Pvt. Emmett Bennett is currently in training with the U.S. Army at Camp Blanding, Fla. Mrs. Bennett and son, Stewart, remain in Hartselle, but hope to visit their husband and father soon.
1958-April 5, Frank Stewart is currently in the latter stages of a six-month tour of Army duty at Ft. Knox, Ky.
1944-April 6, Pfc. Fatty Young of the U.S. Army is now stationed at Orlando, Fla. His mother is Mrs. Annie Young of Hartselle.
1999-April 6, Pfc. Jody Vinzant of Hartselle is currently on duty with the U.S. Army in Hawaii.
1944-April 7, Buford Bentley is now stationed at Camp Perry, Va. His wife, Donna, and little daughter, Marilyn, hope for a visit soon.
1945-April 7, Cpl. Willis Hicks of the U.S. Army is currently posted at Fort Jackson, S.C. Mrs. Hicks and son, Bobby Ray, are residents of Hartselle.
1942-April 8, Fred Sherrill, Jr., is a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
1954-April 8, Buddy Rodgers, who distinguished himself brilliantly in World War II service, is now back on active duty with the U.S. Air Force.
1898-April 9, War with Spain seems certain. That country is still unwilling to grant Cuban independence as demanded by the United States. When conflict comes it is probable that more than a hundred thousand men will invade the Cuban island. Many Alabama men are waiting to volunteer.
1959-April 9, Dick Stoner will report to Camp Gordon, Ga., soon to attend a special Army school.
