FAIRVIEW – A young Falkville team squaring off with one of the best softball team's in Cullman County could have meant disaster.
Actually, it didn't.
The Lady Blue Devils, who are still searching for their first win of the season, fell to Fairview (7-1) 2-0 Friday.
Falkville's Heather Ricks was able to keep the Lady Aggies in check for most of the day. Ricks suffered the loss, but gave up those two runs on four hits. She struck out seven.
Fairview plated what proved to be the game-winning run in the third inning. Katie Holcomb's single to right field scored Jill Housch from second.
The Lady Blue Devils registered their first hit of the game in the fourth inning, but Katrina Wildmon was left stranded at first.
Ricks was able to get out of the bottom half of the fourth unscathed, and the Lady Blue Devils had a chance to score in the fifth.
Tamara Shears ripped a two-out single and stole second base to get into scoring position. However, she was left stranded.
Fairview added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, as Emily Farmer's inside-the-park home run gave Fairview a 2-0 lead and eventual win.
