A Hartselle man has taken a proactive approach to supporting U.S. troops in Iraq by coordinating a toiletry and medical supply donation drive.
Ken McCurry, in conjunction with the Hartselle Fire Department, has placed boxes at Stations No. 1 and 2 for residents to donate bandages, toilet paper, shaving cream, female hygiene products, and other necessities to troops. Donations will be accepted at both stations 7 a.m.-7 p.m., seven days a week. The "No Foolin' Around-Hartselle Supports its Troops!" drive ends April 1.
"I think this is a wonderful way to let our Hartselle troops, their families, and all other troops know that we are thinking about them," McCurry said.
"Any donation, no matter how large or small, will help us to do just that."
McCurry started the drive last Friday and has already received donations or commitments of goods, money, and time from the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, local churches, Hartselle Post Office, Whitt's Barbecue, Kroger, Pig Stand, Evans Florist, Wal-Mart, Larry's Signs, City Florist, Picture This, Hartselle Medical Center, and others.
Volunteers are needed to fill individual care packages and prepare them for shipping. To volunteer to help with shipping, call Susan Hines at the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce at 773-4370.
