Hartselle Junior Varsity wins tournament

The Hartselle Junior Varsity softball team won its own tournament this past weekend and improved its record to 8-0.
Hartselle defeated Austin 5-1 in the championship game.

Championship
Katie James pitched a complete game, giving up six hits and striking out eight for the win.
James also went 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
Shanice Johnson went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Sarah McNutt and Elizabeth Stejskal had one hit apiece.
Hartselle jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, as Austin managed just one run in the third.
Hartselle 6, Hoover 2
Semifinals
Hartselle jumped out to a 5-0 lead and never looked back.
McNutt earned the win, pitching a complete game. She struck out seven.
Lindsay Robinson went 2 for 2, while James went 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Katie Smith had two RBIs and Stejskal had a pair of hits with a double.
Hartselle 7, Brewer 3
Quarterfinals

Hartselle fell behind 1-0 in the first inning but was leading 4-1 by the second. The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the fifth before Brewer tacked on two in the sixth.
Stejskal allowed seven hits and struck out five in the win.
Johnson went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Robinson went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
Hartselle 7, Priceville 2
Game 2
Priceville nearly upset the Lady Tigers in game two of the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs led 2-1 heading into the final inning, but the Lady Tigers scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to advance.
James earned the win, striking out five in the complete-game effort.
Johnson went a perfect 3 for 3 with a triple, RBI and a run scored, while McNutt had two hits with a double and two RBIs.
Anna Vaughn went 2 for 3 with a double, RBI and a run scored.
Hartselle 7, Hueytown 4
Game 1
Hartselle fell behind 3-0 in the top of the third but rallied for a 5-3 lead.
McNutt pitched five innings and struck out three for the win, while going 2 for 3 at the plate.
Johnson went 3 for 3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored.
