Lady Tigers fall to defending champ Hoover

The Hartselle Lady Tigers softball team fell to 8-4 Monday with a 2-1 loss to Hoover.
Two-time defending Class 6A state champion Hoover scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning, while Hartselle scored its only run in the bottom of the seventh.
Jessica Lyle suffered her first loss of the season, making her record 5-1. She pitched the complete game, gave up two hits and two runs, while striking out four.
At the plate, Lyle went 2 of 2 with two singles, Alison Lyle was 1 of 4 with an RBI, Ashley Jackson went 1 of 4 and Rachel Carden went 1 of 2.

Game 1
Sabrina Roberts dominated from the mound, as the Lady Tigers advanced to the second round of the Clay-Chalkville tournament.
Roberts pitched a complete-game shut out, allowing just four hits and striking out two.
Anna Byrd went 1 for 3 with a double and a run scored.
Hartselle 11, Homewood 0
Game 2
Hartselle rocked Homewood for 13 hits and 11 runs, which was more than enough for Sarah McNutt from the mound.
McNutt, making her first career varsity start, went six innings and allowed just one hit. She struck out three and walked a batter.
McNutt was just as effective from the plate, hitting 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.
Anna Byrd went 2 for 2 with four RBIs and a run scored, Jessica Lyle was 2 for 3 with three runs scored, Regan Sandlin went 2 for 4 with three runs scored, while Jessica Barbery and Holly Hampton both had hits.
Hartselle 8, Tarrant 0
Game 3
Jessica Lyle continued Hartselle's domination from the mound, as she threw a perfect game against Tarrant.
A time limit stopped the game in the fifth, as Lyle pitched all five innings, allowed no runs, no hits and struck out six.
It was Hartselle's second perfect game of the season, as Sabrina Roberts recorded one earlier this year against Thompson.
Lyle went 3 for 3 with two runs scored, a triple and three RBIs, Anna Byrd was 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs, while Regan Sandlin went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.

Game 4
The Lady Tigers bowed out of the 24-team tournament with a loss to host Clay-Chalkville.
Clay-Chalkville scored all three of its runs in the top of the first inning, while Hartselle scored its two in the fourth inning.
Sabrina Roberts suffered the loss, giving up six hits (three earned) and striking out three.
Ashley Jackson went 2 for 3, while Roberts went 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
