Eva man indicted on gun charge

By Staff
Staff Reports, Hartselle Enquirer
An Eva man is among 22 charged in a sweeping list of indictments in connection with an federal initiative to reduce gun violence.
Everett Golden, 47, of Eva, is charged with possession of a firearm during a drug crime. Charged along with Golden was Phillip Kent Blackwood, 44, of Cullman.
Twenty other people, mostly from Birmingham, were also indicted and charged with being felons in possession of a firearm, which federal law prohibits.
"These individuals, if convicted, face mandatory federal prison sentences which average five plus years, with no parole," Alice Martin, United States Attorney for the North District of Alabama, said. "Felons lose their constitutional right to carry a firearm. We will continue aggressive prosecution in our efforts to protect law abiding citizens."
The indictments are part of Alabama ICE, a state, local and federal gun violence reduction program implemented under the national Project Safe Neighborhoods program.
