Wildlife Course
If you're just a redneck deer hunter like I am, or maybe your kids don't play baseball—which gives you lots of time to chase turkeys in the spring, then you might be interested in attending only these two sessions of the Master Wildlife Program:
The deer portion of the course will be taught on March 4 beginning at 6 p.m. The Biology and Management of Eastern Wild Turkey will be taught Feb. 18 at 6 p.m. Each session will cost $15 each. I have registration information at the office or you can call me at 773-2549 and I will mail the information to you.
Wildlife biologists from South Carolina will work with other wildlife biologists to provide the latest up-to-date information on growing trophy Whitetail and turkeys.
Grazing School
A grazing school has been developed to provide the latest information and instruction on grazing management to Alabama cattlemen. The school will be two days of instruction and hands-on exercises designed to educate participants in the principles of grazing management. Topics include: Pasture allocation, physiology of forage growth, response of forages to grazing, stocking rates, grazing methods, grazing behavior, meeting nutritional requirements of livestock on pasture economics: hay vs. grazing, economics: evaluating new grazing practices, minimizing hay requirements and stockpiling, nutrient cycling in forage systems, environmental impacts of grazing, power fence for grazing management, conventional and non-conventional water systems, grazing system design and layout, dealing with mud in grazing systems and economics of grazing technology.
The dates will be March 4-5 at the Wiregrass Research and Extension Center, Headland, at Intersection of Highways 431 and 134. The center has a long history of forage and livestock systems research.
The cost of the two-day Grazing Management Workshop is $100 per person. This fee includes a copy of the grazing school manual, a forage measuring stick, the book Southern Forages, and other educational materials, as well as lunches, dinner and break refreshments.
Registration must be received at least 21 days prior to the session. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis and is limited to 36 people per school. Cancellations must be made 10 days prior to the session to receive a refund of the deposit. A reservation will be held only by a completed registration form and a paid deposit.
Participants are responsible for arranging their own lodging.
I have registration forms at the office. Be sure to give me a call at 773-2549 if you have questions or if I can be of help to you.
