Huntsville Symphony presents New Year's Eve concert at VBC

The Huntsville Symphony Orchestra presents "The Wonderful Wizardry of Williams" on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the VBC in Huntsville. Music Director Taavo Virkhaus will conduct film score favorites in this tribute to the Academy Award-winning composer John Williams. Thrill to the "Raiders March" from Raiders of the Lost Ark; listen to the weeping violin of the Theme from Schindler's List and be enchanted by selections from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Beloved classical favorites round out the evening's entertainment, making this concert a treat for everyone in the family.
Featured soloists are Concertmaster Mark Reneau, and HSO pianist Frank Contreras. The concert is sponsored by The Boeing Company.
Other Williams compositions to be performed include selections from The Patriot and Far and Away, as well as the stirring "Olympic Fanfare" composed for the 1984 Olympics. m score during the late 1970s.
Tickets may be purchased by phone at 539-4818, in person at the HSO Offices and the VBC Box Office, and online at www.hso.org or www.Ticketmaster.com. Tickets may also be purchased the night of the concert at the Concert Hall beginning at 6:15 p.m. Single ticket prices range from $22 to $45, with student and group rates available. Discounted tickets are available for HSO subscribers, and there is a $5 student rush beginning at 7:20 p.m.
The New Year's Eve Gala Party will take place following the concert next door in the North Hall of the VBC. Guests may dance to the music of the George Winter Orchestra and enjoy hors d'oeuvres, midnight champagne and breakfast. Tickets are purchased separately for $65 per person.
