Sexual offender moves to Falkville

Falkville residents are being notified that a convicted sexual offender may soon be living in their midst.
In accordance with Alabama law, Jarrett Martin Maples, 31, has reported to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office that he will be relocating to 82 Hand Road in Falkville. Alabama's Community Notification Act requires convicted sex offenders to register with the sheriff's office in the county where they are residing.
Maples was covicted of sexual abuse in connection with a 12-year-old girl in Morgan County. Sexual abuse in the first degree is a class C felony.
He was released from jail in Oct. 19, 1998 and initially registered that same day. He registered with Morgan County officials Sept. 11.
The Community Notification Act is designed to make neighbors aware that a convicted sex offender has moved into their area. It is also designed to help law enforcement monitor where the offenders are.
Under Alabama law, convicted sex offenders are prohibited from living with 2,000 feet of a school or day care; within 1,000 feet of the residence of his victim or their immediate family; or live in a home where a minor resident.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Safety website, there are 34 convicted sexual offenders registered in Morgan County. There are six registered in Hartselle.
