Mary Morrow Watts

Funeral for Mary Morrow Watts, 65, of Sarasota, Fla., and formerly of Hartselle, was Saturday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Patrick Miller officiating.
Burial was in Palms Memorial Park with Jones Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Watts died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, in Sarasota. A native of Morgan County, she graduated from Morgan County Training School in 1956 and earned her bachelor's degree from Tuskegee Institute in 1960. She received her master's degree in counseling from the University of South Florida in 1975. She studied at Florida State University and Yule University.
Mrs. Watts taught elementary students from 1962 until 1973 in Sarasota County. She served as guidance counselor and principal at Gocio Elementary School. She was principal at Wilkinson Elementary School from 1982-1986. From 1986-1992, she served as executive director of elementary schools in Sarasota County. From 1993 until her retirement in 1997, she served as executive director of elementary schools in Sarasota County. From 1993 until her retirement in 1997, she served as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the Sarasota County School District. Mrs. Watts served on the board of directors at Manatee Community College, Barnett Bank, Florida Youth Ranch and United Way. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin Watts and Errol Watts, both of Sarasota; her mother, Inez Morrow of Hartselle; one brother, Sam Morrow of Hartselle; and two grandchildren.
