On average, Morgan County residents are slightly older, will live longer and are more apt to get divorced than the rest of the state's residents, according to statistics from the Alabama Department of Public Health.
The department conducts a health study of each of Alabama's 67, as well as the entire state, on a yearly basis.
Statistics show the average age for Morgan County residents is 36.6, slightly older than the average Alabamian's age of 35.8. And, while the average Alabamians lives to 74, Morgan County's average is higher, with a life expectancy of 75.3 years.
The news is not so good on the marriage front, however. Statewide, there were 47,087 marriages last year and 24,630 divorces, or 5.5 split-ups for every 1,000 residents.
Morgan County reported 1,020 marriages and more than 783 divorces, for a divorce rate of 7 per 1,000 residents.
