Short story earns local student top prize
A short story by has earned an eighth grader at Falkville High School a state award.
Nikkie Rutherford recently won the first place in the State Junior Short Story Division of the Alabama Penmanship Contest.
Her story story, "Caring for Sandy" won first place in the contest, earning her a monetary award from the State Department of Education and a plaque from the Morgan County Board of Education.
Rutherford is the daughter of Bruce and Betty Kelso of Falkville. Her teacher is Tracy Stoudnour.
