Hartselle golfers eyeing run at state

The Hartselle Tiger boys golf team finished up the first half of their season with a 32-18-1 record and are looking toward a run at qualifying for the state tournament at the end of the year.
"The best team finish so far has been a tie for second in the Deer Run Invitational with a score of 309 in a field of 17 teams," Coach Jack Napier said.
Other finishes include a fifth-place in a 10 team field at the Pepsi invitational at Pt. Mallard with a score of332 and 11th in a 21-team field at the Terri Pines Invitational with a team score of 329.
Senior J.T. Compton and sophomore Martin Agnew lead the Tiger golf team.
"With good and improving play from Sophomore Hunter Roberts and Junior Robert Turney, the team should have a good shot at qualifying for state," Napier said.
Compton leads the squad with a stroke average of 79.7 per 18 holes. His best round this season was a 75 which earned him a tie for fifth place in the Deer Run tournament.
Agnew averages 80.5 strokes per round. His best round this season is a 78 at Point Mallard.
Roberts' averages 83.7 and scored a 76 at Deer Run to tie for seventh place.
Turney is holding down the fourth spot with an 85.4 average and a best round of 76 to tie Roberts at Deer Run.
Vying for the fifth spot on the team are Simon Ellis, Dustin Burch and Tyler Vest.
The junior varsity squad of Adam Faulk, Brian Villanueva and Tyler Kirby sport a 2-3 record.
Senior Stacy Wallace leads the Hartselle girls golf team, which is off to a 4-4 record. First year team member junior Megan Wimberley has been a welcome addition along with senior Jennifer Shelton and freshmen Meghan Boudreaux and Danielle Royal.
The girls' best tournament finish is a third at Deer Run.
Wallace leads the team with a stroke average of 104.3 on 18 holes. She set her best nine-hole mark of the season against Lawrence County High with a 46.
